Over 17 academics, artists, choreographers & writers have been invited to be part of these collective dialogues. For each dialogue we will use excerpts from texts, audio and video as the starting point for each conversation.

Wednesday 6th March:  C.L.R. James, The Black Jacobins, 1938; Michel-Rolph Troulliot, “Culture on the Edges: Creolization in the Plantation Context.” Plantation Society in the Americas 5 (1998): 8-28; and short clip of Lia Rodrigues’ work Encantado.

Thursday 7th March: D’Angelo’s Voodoo, album; a recollection made by D’Angelo in a 2000 Vibe magazine interview with the writer dream hampton; and an observation made by the studio engineer for Voodoo, and a close collaborator with D’Angelo on the project, Russell Elevado, in a 2007 Red Bull Music Academy interview.
